Lightning talk: Open data and participatory tools to support zero carbon transport
Speaker: Robin Lovelace, University of Leeds

The recent COP26 in Glasgow and overwhelming scientific evidence show that transformational change is needed to save the world from the worst effects of climate change. The transition away from fossil fuels is challenging in many areas of life, but transport is particularly hard to decarbonise due to its reliance on high energy density fuels. This lightning talk will outline how new and emerging datasets, combined with open access models, can enable transport planning practitioners and the public to envision and simulate the transition to zero carbon in the transport sector, while improving accessibility and health outcomes.

The urban analytics programme is pleased to host its first hybrid event. The event will be the programmes first in-person at scale event since October 2019.

About the event

The event will be split over two days, with a different focus for each. Day one will feature talks and networking sessions, offering the opportunity to catch up on recent research from across the community, and hear the latest thoughts of some leading thinkers in the field. There will be two keynote talks from Vanessa Lawrence and Seth Spielman.

Day two will see a series of breakout sessions, with participants working on a vision of the future of urban analytics – or ‘urban analytics 2.0’ – in light of recent developments such as the government’s National AI Strategy and the Turing’s move towards ‘Turing 2.0’.

Participation is welcomed from all members of the Turing’s urban analytics community, on either or both days of the event.
