In fact, if you ever use ChatGPT to help you draft an email, sales copy for a website, or script for an ad, it writes pretty much like spam mail or over the top, pushy salesmen.
And it doesn’t sound like you or anything you would ever write.
But you can fix this with a simple custom instruction. If you are not familiar with Custom Instructions, these are set of instructions that you can give ChatGPT at the account level.
And I’ll share 6 of them with you in this video to help you avoid this ChatGPT writing problem.
We are going to start with this prompt inside of ChatGPT:
Analyze the following text. and then give me a set of instructions I can use to write exactly in the same tone, writing style, reading level and delivery. (Insert your text)
ChatGPT will give you prompts that look similar to these. You can use these as prompts or you can add them as custom instruction in your ChatGPT account.
Maintain a Conversational Tone: Write as if you are speaking to someone directly. Use “you” to address the reader and include personal anecdotes or rhetorical questions to maintain engagement.
Be Direct and Clear: Get straight to the point. Start with a clear statement of the problem or topic, then follow with your main points. Avoid lengthy explanations or unnecessary details.
Use Simple Language: Stick to common, everyday words. Avoid industry jargon unless it’s widely understood by your target audience. Break down complex ideas into simpler terms.
Focus on Problem-Solution: Structure your writing to first present a problem or challenge, then follow up with a solution or recommendation. This format is especially effective for instructional or persuasive writing.
Include Actionable Steps: Just like the text provides “5 custom instructions,” ensure your writing includes clear, actionable steps or key takeaways that the reader can apply.
Personalize the Content: Tailor your writing to resonate with your specific audience. In this case, the text targets users familiar with ChatGPT and AI tools, so include references or examples that would be relevant to them.
