Prakash Gatta, Surgeon & Chair, MultiCare Health System Wide Robotics Committee

Abstract:
What is the future of surgery? From its humble beginnings, through great strides in antisepsis and anatomic knowledge, technology has finally caught up to the needs of today’s surgeon. The surgery of tomorrow will be delivered more accurately and safely and yet will be faster than the past. Robotic surgery was first passed by the FDA in 2000, and now we have the ability to collect real-time surgical data from the robot. This opens up the possibility of building automated “surgery models” that can assist less experienced surgeons, or perhaps automate the surgeon altogether. Watch Dr. Gatta reveal that the surgery of tomorrow is actually happening… today.
